Computer Unit

In 2000, Madeena established its first computer unit in a temporary building near the administration block of the upper school. It started with four Pentium II-133 MHz machines, which were used for both administrative and academic purposes.

By 2003, we were able to set up a fully equipped “Computer Learning Centre” with 20 machines and new furniture. This center was funded by the Asian Development Bank under the SEMP project.

Madeena’s Computer Learning Centre is located in a 40 by 20-foot enclosure in the lower school, and students from Grade 5 to Grade 13 all benefited from it.

Unfortunately, in 2018, all the original computers were removed as they were no longer suitable for use. We were without any computers until 2021.

In mid-2021, our school received a significant upgrade: 100 tablet PCs for students and 10 tablets for teachers. Of these, 30 tablets were allocated to our computer unit.

Since then, we have been using these tablets for Grade 10, 11, and 12 students.
In 2022, we were further enhanced with a high-speed fiber Internet connection across all sections of the school.

Currently, all Grade 10 and 11 classes receive one “Computer Awareness” lesson per week. Additionally, all Grade 12 classes are allocated three periods each for GIT (General Information Technology)

In 2024, we received another valuable donation: five desktop PCs and a smart board from Mr. Sajith Premadasa under the “Sakwala” project.

The smart board has proven to be a great asset for our primary students.

All primary classes in Grade 4 and 5 are given at least one period per week for computer-related activities, and all the students are happy with these provisions.
